A fabulous autumn or winter week in one of the Costa Blanca’s top resorts is the prize awaiting the reader who sends us the best entry in our Holiday Villas/VillaSpain holiday photo competition.
We want pictures that capture the spirit of a foreign holiday. Technical quality will be a factor in the judging – because we’ll be publishing many of the entries in Holiday Villas – but it will be the content that really matters.
It could be a picture of your family on a beach or by a villa pool, your children playing in the Med or enjoying a day out at an Orlando theme park. It could be the sun setting on a Greek island, flamenco dancers in Spain, a market in the Algarve, fisherman selling their catch on a quayside in Cyprus or a toddler learning to swim in a Tenerife water park. It could be any memorable, eye-catching image you’ve captured while on holiday anywhere from Florida in the west across to Turkey in the east.

VillaSpain’s prize is a week’s self-catering holiday in the tranquil Portet Valley district of Moraira, where the winner’s holiday home will be Villa Guapa (pictured above). Guapa means beautiful in Spanish, and it’s an apt name for this luxury three-bedroom house. With sea views, the newly-built villa has a private swimming pool, a secluded courtyard, a large terrace for alfresco dining, a well-equipped modern kitchen and a gym. It’s a five-minute drive to the town and its Blue Flag beaches.
The prize package includes air fares for two adults and a rental car.
“Villa Guapa was fantastic. We could see beautiful sights from the pool, and the furnishings were fantastic. Thank you.“ -Fatima Desa
“Many thanks for all your help and, once again, for a fantastic villa. I have paid more for one night’s hotel accommodation in the UK than I did for the villa for the week, and I know which one I would rather stay in.” -Paul Tumber
“We really enjoyed our holiday again with VillaSpain and look forward to our next one. We cannot fault VillaSpain and would recommend them to anyone for the excellent service, communication and wide variety of lovely villas.” -Carol and Colin Eden
Moraira– originally a small fishing village – is an upmarket Costa Blanca resort that hasn’t been blighted by high-rise package holiday hotels. It has lots of luxury villas, but strict planning controls have preserved much of its essential Spanish character and atmosphere. Its pine-clad hills provide shelter from the worst of the winter weather and a natural vortex for cooling summer sea breezes.
The local beaches are ideal for sunbathing, swimming and snorkelling, and the much bigger beaches at Javea and Denia are only a short drive away, as is the old town of Teulada, where the Spanish restaurants specialise in traditional seafood and rice dishes. The small beach at El Portet is a favourite spot for lunch or dinner, and a must for serious self-caterers is Moraira’s Friday market, where the big draw is locally-caught fish.

VillaSpain is a UK-based company managing a portfolio of competitively priced privately-owned villas in the Denia, Javea, Moraira and Altea areas on the Costa Blanca. Its philosophy is villa luxury at affordable prices – starting at less than £200 per property per week – consistent value for money and strong local office support. Its website displays live availability and provides virtual villa tours, picture galleries, full property descriptions and an unbiased comfort grading. It also handles lettings at the Imperial Park Country Club in Calpe, and at a holiday apartment in Andorra in the Pyrenees.
The company plants one tree for every guest staying in its villas… having calculated that a return flight from Britain to the Costa Blanca, plus the use of hire car, for a villa holiday produces less greenhouse gas than one tree will absorb in its lifetime.
