Villa Athena,
Mrs
AJS Manchester,
Review Submitted: March 1, 2010 Date of Stay: February
2010
This villa is brand new, and resides in a
very quiet neighbourhood, although is reasonably close to the neighbours if you
are looking for total privacy. It is a beautiful house, well equipped and has a
good-sized pool with state-of-the-art solar panel heating which meant we could
use it for our stay during February half-term - children (10 and 12) spent
hours in it ! Pool temp was 19'C at the start of the week and 22'C by the
Friday. The villa has air conditioning which can provide heating out of season
though we did not need to use it. The owner Andreas is charming and called a
couple of times to check on the pool and its temperature, given his recent
investment in the solar panels.
Sundance Villas were extremely helpful in enabling us to identify a property
with a pool that could be used out of season, and answering all my questions
frankly, in order that we knew what to expect. Nicole, the local rep was
particularly helpful in finding a local riding stable for the children and
helping us to organise a Birthday party for our daughter during our week's
holiday.
The Welcome Pack contained all the right items to get us through the first
couple of days as we arrived late on Saturday and most shops are shut on
Sunday, so we were very grateful for cornflakes, fresh milk and juice, plus
bacon and eggs, tea, coffee and lots of fruit and bread.
We rented a car from Cy-Breeze + were met by Nick at the airport which made
finding the the right place in the dark much easier given the numerous
diversions and roadworks on the main road from Paphos. He had organised a GPS
for us which was great in that it was in the car on arrival and we left it with
the car at the end. The map data wasn't great though, particularly with half
the roads being dug up and in the mountains it struggled to work out which road
we were on, but on balance it was probably better than nothing !
We would probably hire a 4-wheel drive car next time to explore the Akamas
National Park, as you invalidate the terms of the insurance and hire agreement
if you take a standard hire car off-road,and there are actually quite large
areas of the island only accessible to 4WDs.
Good local restaurants include King Solomon's in Coral Bay - Elli + Andros are
very hospitable, offering a wide range of excellent, well-priced dishes, and
Poppadoms between Coral Bay and Paphos made a real fuss of my daughter for her
Birthday and made delicious to-order dishes, so not too spicy for the kids.
